Black Friday deal checker

Is that golf deal really a deal?

Retailers often show a high "was" price to make a sale look bigger. Paste the link and we check what that page charged every day for the last two months, then tell you if today's price is lower than usual.

Works on links from the UK golf retailers we track. Clubs, balls, bags and tech.

What you get back

EXAMPLE
Retailer says, was£399
Price today£229
Usual price on that page£229
Real saving£0
  • REAL SAVINGToday is clearly below what that page usually charges.
  • NO REAL SAVINGToday is about the usual price, whatever the "was" price says.
  • COSTS MOREToday is above what that page usually charges.
  • CAN'T CHECK YETWe have under 10 days of prices for that page.

If the same club is cheaper at another retailer today, the receipt lists it.

How it works

  1. 1. Paste the link to one product page at a UK golf retailer.
  2. 2. We look up every price that page charged at our daily checks.
  3. 3. You get today's price against the page's usual price, and the same build at other retailers if it costs less there.

How we work out the usual price

  • The usual price is the median of the prices the page charged from 60 days to 8 days before the check. The last week is left out, so a sale that started a few days early cannot become its own usual price.
  • We need a price on at least 10 days in that window. With fewer, the receipt says "Can't check yet" and does not guess.
  • A real saving is at least £5 and at least 3% below the usual price. A smaller difference counts as the usual price.
  • The retailer's "was" price never sets the usual price. The receipt shows it and tells you the last day the page charged it, if it ever did.
  • Other retailers count only for the same build: hand, loft, flex and condition. Their price must have been seen in stock in the last 3 days.

Questions

Is a golf retailer's "was" price the price it used to charge?
A "was" price is not always a price the page charged recently. The receipt shows every price the page charged at our daily checks, and the last day it charged the "was" price, if it did.
How do you know the usual price?
It is the median of the prices that page charged from 60 days to 8 days before the check. The last week is left out so a sale that started early does not become its own usual price.
What counts as a real saving?
Today's price has to be at least £5 and at least 3% below the usual price on that page. A smaller difference counts as the usual price.
Why does it say it can't check yet?
We need a price on at least 10 days between 60 and 8 days before the check. A new page, or one we only started checking recently, has fewer, so the receipt shows what we know about the club at other retailers instead of guessing.
Does it compare other retailers?
Yes. If another retailer had the same build in stock in the last 3 days for less, the receipt lists it with its price. The same build means the same hand, loft, flex and condition.
Does it cost anything?
No. The deal checker is free and needs no account.
